Stapleton Derby joined tens of thousands of businesses, clubs and organisations last week to serve up tea, cake and sausage rolls at the UK’s biggest ever coffee morning in aid of MacMillan. The team are proud to have raised £300 from donations and a raffle that saw some very happy visitors walk away with some incredible prizes. We want to thank everyone who donated prizes, came along for a brew and popped in to say “Hi”. Thank you to all of you!
We’ve all be affected by Cancer in some way. Macmillan describes itself as a charity that provides “information, health care and financial support” to those who are affected by cancer. They are one of the largest charities – let alone CANCER charities – in the UK, but anyone who has experienced the care and support of Macmillan knows that they are so much more.
The battle against cancer is physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting, not just for those with the disease but for everyone that knows and loves them. Doctors and nurses of the NHS and other medical servers fight tirelessly for their patients against an aggressive illness but they can only do so if they focus their energy on the cold hard facts. Medical teams fight fire with fire, cutting, radiating and poisoning every afflicted cell in order to save lives. Their goal is to beat the disease however that can take its toll. It’s important that those fighting Cancer have a strong hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on; a champion who’ll be there every step of the way.
Macmillan’s teams of specialist nurses and support staff are always there for those fighting cancer. They’re at the end of the phone listening to your fears and tears, and they’re holding the hands of scared relatives in hospital waiting rooms. Macmillan nurses are chasing patients’ test results and liaising with medical teams to coordinate treatment, operations and care so the whole process is as comfortable as it possibly can be. Macmillan treat everyone in their care as a very human individual who is frightened and needs someone who is in-the-know and on-their-side.
Mamillan don’t just do information, healthcare and financial support.
The £300 raised by Stapleton Derby, along with the £millions raised across the country funds Macmillan’s essential work helping our Mum’s, our Dad’s, our friends and our colleagues to endure, fight and beat cancer, once and for all.
